Never say goodbye
promise me--
Cross your fingers if you must.
Search your heart, can you find me?
promise me--
When I wake up, your arms are there.
A welcoming smile, a gentle caress..
promise me--
I never want to say goodbye
Never whisper "I never loved you."
promise me--
When my laugh tires you,
you'll only stop listening.
promise me--
When my hair grows grey,
you'll only stop looking.
promise me--
we'll always be friends.
make me these promises...so that even in my old age I will know I am loved

I loved this part.

Lovely poem. Very sad. The way you wrote it made me feel like the speaker is asking these things in retrospect. Like it's already too late and the other person has already broken all those promises. Well written.
